201611151800 Notice: Sustainable Transport Research Presentations at UoM
On the 22nd November from 3.00 pm to 5.00 pm, Masters students working on ‘Sustainable Transport and Public Policy’ will present their plans for a more rational, purposeful and well connected bus network for Melbourne’s suburbs.
Location is the English Room, Baldwin Spencer Building, Parkville Campus of the University of Melbourne.
The students were invited to examine and replan the bus network in five suburban locations: Footscray, Box Hill, Frankston, Narre Warren and Epping. The aim of replanning was to increase patronage on bus routes by providing frequent rapid services to local employment and service destinations and rapid transport interchange points (rail and tram stations). They found a substantial variety of contexts which influenced their solutions, both in the design of the existing local residential environment, and in the existing bus services on offer.

That an ever increasing percentage of the total population are over 65 and not employed in the “normal” work force that adds value to products and/or activities, is not necessarily the main
issue in an ageing society. The main issue is that the ever-increasing percentage of the population with physical and mental constraints limiting fulfilling rewarding and satisying lives needs
managing. Responsible self-management and management by the more able in the community can be more effective with integrated planning of land-use and transport for ecological
sustainability and a healthy living environment.
A group of TCPA supporters are developing an urban health index similar to the walk score widely used by the real estate industry sector. Interested readers are invited to contribute to
setting the algorithms by emailing Horst (Oz) Kayak at oz4lca@gmail com
